About
Degree on Petrochemical / Macromolecular Chemistry and Ph.D. in Materials Engineering (UPV/EHU). Researcher of ‘Materials+Technologies’ Group (Polytechnic College, University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU) from 2000, and Assistant Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department in the UPV/EHU. His main interest is the development of new materials based on partially or totally renewable or recyclable materials for several applications. In this way, she has worked in the modification of novolac and resol phenolic resins with condensable and hydrolysable tannins in order to reduce the fossil raw materials employed in the synthesis of these adhesives used in automotive industry and plywood manufacturing. She has collaborated in several projects related to paper industry for special cellulose pulp production and biorefinery of biomass from agricultural and forestry residues for lignin production. She has employed proteinoceus, mainly gelatin, and polyester matrices, carbohydrates molecules, and fibres, micro- and nanofibres (vegetable and animal sources) for films, composites, nanocomposites and multilayer materials development. The grants required for all these works have been obtained from the participation in several local and national projects. She has collaborated in European 7FP projects: Traysrenew project for the development of innovative renewable trays based on biopolymers and bast fibres (http://www.traysrenew.eu/) and in FLHEA project for Flax and Hemp advanced fibre based composites (http://www.flhea.eu/). In last years, she is working on the circular economy area by the development of sustainable post-consumer (marine, urban and agricultural waste) and post-industrial waste recycling processes. Together with other local agents, she is a member of the Gipuzkoa Cluster for Reuse and Recycling (Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa). Since 2020 she has been Director of the Circular Economy Business Classroom of the School of Engineering of Gipuzkoa and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. She has published more than 35 scientific papers in international journals in the field of materials and chemistry science and some book chapters.
