Past editor of the journal Soils and Rocks, Associate Editor of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal, Member of the Editorial Boards of the journals Geotextiles and Geomembranes, Geosynthetics International, Environmental Geotechnics and International Journal of Geosynthetics and Ground Engineering. Reviewer of papers submitted to several international journals. Assessor of research sponsoring agencies in Brazil and overseas. Member of organizing committees and of advisory committees of several international conferences. Lecturer of several courses on geosynthetics in different countries. Has over 350 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. Eight papers published in international journals received awards. Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Brasília, Brazil, since 1987.
