• Full Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), acting also as a representative member of the Technological and Geophysical Faculty at the Highest University Councils. Member of the Graduate Program on Civil Engineering and the Graduate Program on Mechanical Engineering.
• Director of the Integrated Laboratories on Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Technology (LITPEG-UFPE).
• Leader of High Performance Computing on Computational Mechanics Group (PADMEC) and previously acted as the Coordinator of the Committee for creation and later as a member of the Consultant Council of the National Center for High Performance Computation at Pernambuco (CENAPAD-PE).

His research deals with numerical methods for nonlinear mechanics of solids, fluids, and structures. More specifically, he has developed time integration methods for Hamiltonian and coupled problems, models and numerical methods for nonlinear beams and shells, improved finite elements for solid mechanics, error estimators in nonlinear dynamics and multiscale methods for material modeling. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles, participated in dozens of conferences and has been invited to give seminars in European and American universities.

My areas of research interest are analysis and behavior of thin walled structures, with current emphasis on oil storage tanks; computational material science, with emphasis on multiscale analysis of composites and metal alloys; and history of Mechanics.
