	<title><![CDATA[Mehdi Ghommem]]></title>
	<description><![CDATA[<p>I joined the Mechanical Engineering Department at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) as&nbsp;Assistant Professor in August 2016. I was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in&nbsp;September 2020. I was appointed as Dana Gas Endowed Chair in Engineering in September 2023. I earned my Ph.D. degree in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech, USA in&nbsp;December 2011. I joined AUS after gaining good experience in industry. I worked as a research&nbsp;scientist with Schlumberger, the world&rsquo;s leading oil and gas technology provider. I was involved&nbsp;in conducting and supporting research projects along with recommending scientific approaches,<br />
novel concepts, and innovative technical solutions to monitor and control well stimulation&nbsp;operations. My experience in industry was helpful to guide students, give them insights on the&nbsp;workplace culture, and prepare them for professional careers. My current research interests include&nbsp;nonlinear dynamics, modeling, design, and analysis of micro electromechanical systems (MEMS),&nbsp;and bio-robotics. To date, I have published 96 refereed journal papers and hold 1 granted patent&nbsp;and 3 US patent applications. My research findings have been presented at several international<br />
conferences. I was the recipient of the AUS College of Engineering Excellence in Research and Outstanding International&nbsp;Collaboration awards and Schlumberger Henri Doll prize for innovation among other awards and&nbsp;scholarships. I have also been recognized, since 2020, among the World&rsquo;s Top 2% Scientists by<br />
