Teaching: As an instructor in the field of computational mechanics, being a good teacher is of fundamental importance. My teaching philosophy can be summarized in the following; a) Teach quality over quantity,b) Bring an added dimension to lectures, c) Emphasis on practical engineering problems, d) Good teaching for all.
Research: My research is motivated by the challenge of modeling, rigorously analyzing and implementing methods for the numerical simulation of diverse and highly complex physical phenomenon. During my doctoral studies I have focused on advanced finite element techniques, such as : Meshless methods, for the simulation of metal forming operations (including visco-plasticity, thermal softening, fracture and crack propagation, etc). Presently, my primary focus has been in the developing of isogeometric approaches and model order reduction methods in both computational solid mechanics and computational fluid dynamics. In addition, I have also been working in the area of modeling nano-composites.

I am Assistant Professor (Rita Levi Montalcini professorship) in Hydraulic and Maritime
Constructions and Hydrology at the University of Padova, Italy (2018). I am a Civil Engineer (five years degree) by the University of Padova, Italy (2006), M.Sc.in Numerical Methods (2011) and PhD in Structural Analysis (2012) by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Spain. I got a postdoctoral fellowship at the UPC by the Catalonian regional
government (2015-2017) and I have been Juan de la Cierva Incorporación postdoctoral
fellow at the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering CIMNE (2017-
2018). Since 2008 I have also been working at CIMNE as researcher (2008-2014), Assistant Research Professor (2014-2016) and Associate Research Professor (2017-2018),
respectively. My PhD thesis was awarded the Special Doctorate Award by the UPC, and
it was finalist for the best PhD thesis in numerical methods issued by SEMNI.I have
been awarded the Rita Levi Montalcini fellowship (2018-2021) by the Italian Ministry,
the Juan de la Cierva Incorporation fellowship (2016-2018) by the Spanish Ministry and
the PDJ fellowship by the regional Catalonian government (2014-2016). I work in computational mechanics with special focus on geomechanics and coupled problems. I have worked with different numerical approaches, from finite elements, to continuumbased particle methods, in both Lagrangian and Eulerian frameworks. I have worked on
the development and combination of different numerical techniques for the analysis of
coupled problems accounting for free surface flows, non-Newtonian materials and fluidstructure interaction. Moreover, I am working on innovative immersed boundary methods (IBM) for fluid-structure interaction. Finally I am one of the main developers of KRATOS

Dr. Tena-Colunga obtained his BSc. in Civil Engineering at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and his MSc. and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Currently, he is a Professor at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Azcapotzalco in Mexico City. He is Member of the Mexican Academy of Engineering since 2000 and member of the National System of Researchers of Mexico since 1993. He has published more than 300 scientific publications. Currently I am the Director of the Transportation Technology Transfer Center (T²) and full professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Surveying of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) since 1978. I have a BSCE from UPRM, and a MSCE and a PhD in the transportation engineering area from Purdue University. I am a registered professional engineer in Puerto Rico and in Indiana. In December 2009, I finished the academic requirements to obtain a Juris Doctor, JD, from the Eugenio María de Hostos Law School in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.

In the academic phase, I have taught undergraduate courses such as Highway Location and Curve Design, Highway Engineering, Structural Design of Pavements, Asphalt Mixtures, Pavement Management and Road Safety, among others.

I graduated with a BsC in Physics at the University of Barcelona (UB), and have a PhD degree in Physics from the Technical University of Catalunya (UPC). My research interests are Meteorology and Air Polution Modeling.

I have held a Tenure-track position at UPC (Dept. of Applied Mathematics and Dept. of Physics and Nuclear Engineering), to move later to the private sector, first as Head of Atmospheric Projects at TYPSA-TECNOMA, and as a Freelance consultant in Environmental Engineering projects (www.ceciliasoriano.com).

Since 2012 I am Staff Scientist at CIMNE, where I carry out duties related to Research Management and Competitive Fundraising. Reporting directly to the Director and the General manager, my tasks at CIMNE have to do with providing pre-award assistance to researchers to apply for available competitive grants (at the national, EC or international funding level). I identify funding opportunities, help determine eligibility for grants and awards, and collaborate with them in the development of the proposals needed to compete for them. I also oversee budget development, and help prepare any documentation required by a proposal. Additionally, I participate in the negotiation stage (in EC grants) towards signature of the grant agreement, and occasionally I am involved in project management regarding coordination of the consortium and follow up of the project side-by-side with the Principal Investigator.

I am also the coordinator of the UPC UNESCO Chair in Numerical Methods in Engineering.

Technical Public Works Engineer specializing in Hydrology from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in 2007. Civil Engineer specializing in Hydraulics and Energy from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in 2014.

I began my professional activity in the field of Hydraulic Engineering in 2006 in the company ALATEC. In 2007, I incorporated to the Water and Environment Department of Clothos S.L. until 2009. I worked on the Wastewater and Water Supply Master Plans of Canal de Isabel II.

In 2009, I started as a research engineer in the Hydraulics Laboratory of the School of Civil Engineering of the UPM. In 2014, I joined the Research in Dam Safety (SERPA). Since then, I have been working in different activities and participating in R&D projects within the research group. I worked on numerical thermal models of concrete dam construction in the ACOMBO project and I started my doctoral thesis on this topic

From 16 May 2021 to 15 Sept 2022 I worked in CIMNE-Madrid, meanly in the hydraulics models. I am also finished my doctoral thesis entitled "Thermal evolutionary studies of roller-compacted concrete dams in construction phase" on 22nd November 2021.

David J. Vicente received the Bachelor's Degree, and subsequently the Master's Degree, in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Madrid in 2009 and 2011, respectively, both specialising in Hydraulics. In 2017 he presented his thesis 'Design of pressure management operations in water distribution districts and analysis of their impact' with 'Excellent Cum Laude' qualification.

He has worked on multiple research projects, being his fields of expertise the application of numerical modelling and Machine Learning-based models to different areas of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering: “Water Distribution Systems: modelling, pressure management and leakage management”, “Dam Engineering: geometric design, thermo-mechanical modelling”, “Prediction of water quality parameters and optimization of advanced treatments” and “Air quality forecasting”.

He is currently working for CIMNE (since October 2015), in the department of “Machine Learning in Civil Engineering” where he is involved in research, technical development (programming) and proposal development at national and European level. Dr Brea currently is a Full Professor of both the School of Electrical Engineering at the Central University of Venezuela, and the School of Industrial Engineering at the Andrés Bello Catholic University. He received his PhD from the Department of Mathematics of the University of Southampton, a MSc in Operational Research and a five-year BSc degree in Electrical Engineering, both from the Faculty of Engineering of the Central University of Venezuela. His research interests include Monte Carlo simulation, development of simulation models of discrete event dynamic systems, optimization algorithm design and optimization by simulation. Among his most important academic administrative positions at the Central University of Venezuela, Dr Brea currently is the Coordinator of Engineering Science Doctoral Program of the Central University of Venezuela, and also a member of the Academic Committee of the Postgraduate Program in Electrical Engineering; former Director of the School of Electrical Engineering; former Head of the Department of Electronic, Computing and Control; and also former Council Secretary of the School of Electrical Engineering. My major challenge is to integrate my knowledge gained on computational medical image and computational methods into robust and fully reliable computer models and "in silico" environments that will help the development and testing of new therapies and better disease prediction and prevention tools, in healthcare.

After completing a degree in Civil Engineering in July 1975 at the Technical Univ. of Valencia (Spain), he started postgraduate studies at the Civil Engineering Dept. of Swansea University, Wales, UK. There he completed in June 1976 a Master of Science degree (M.Sc. Thesis on Development of a finite strip method for analysis of bridges and folded plate structures) and later a Ph.D. degree (Dec. 1978) under the supervision of Prof. O. C. Zienkiewicz (Ph. D. Thesis on Plastic flow in metals with special reference to: I) Coupled thermal flow. II) Thin sheet metal forming). His Ph.D. studies were funded by an Alcoa Research Grant from USA.

In February 1979 he moved to the Technical University of Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain, where he was hired as an Associated Professor on Structural Mechanics at the School of Civil Engineering. He became a Full Professor with tenure on June 1983. From March 1983 to March 1989 he was the Director of the School of Civil Engineering at UPC.

On March 1987 he founded CIMNE (International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering, www.cimne.com), a research center specialized in the development and application of numerical methods in engineering. From March 1987 to June 2022 he was the Executive Vice-President and Director of CIMNE.

Has supervised 49 Ph.D. Thesis and 95 Master Thesis . 30 of his former students are now full professors in Universities in Spain (13), USA (4), UK (2) and Latin America (11). He has had a significant impact in the creation of new scientific groups in cooperation with his former students.

In 1989 he was the founder and first President of the Spanish Association for Numerical Methods in Engineering (SEMNI, www.cimne.upc.es/semni).

He was one of the founders and first Vice-President (1993-95) of the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS, www.eccomas.org)

His research activities have spread over a range of multidisciplinary fields which he has contributed relevant theories and methods of scientific and industrial relevance.

The above research lines have been developed in the framework of over 400 RTD projects carried out in cooperation with the main engineering companies in Spain and worldwide. Some 120 of these projects have been developed in the framework of EC programmes.

In parallel with the RTD activities, Eugenio Oñate has organized as chair person 45 international congresses on topics closely related with the above RTD lines. See list of congresses in www.cimne.com .

He has published 302 papers in scientific journals. He has written 4 text books and is the editor of 52 books in different topics of Computational Engineering Mechanics. He is the editor of three scientific journals (one of which is published by Springer) and 3 books series in Computational Mechanics. He is the author of 62 chapters in books, 40 monographs, 435 papers in conference proceedings and 230 research reports .

He has 4770 citations in the field of Computational Engineering Science. He has an h index of 42 and 19 papers with more than 50 citations.

He is regularly invited to deliver Keynote (Plenary) Lectures in the main International Conferences in Computational Engineering Science (25 Plenary Lectures and 30 Keynote lectures in the last 20 years).

His research work has been recognized in many Prizes and Awards.

From 2006 to 2008, worked as a CNRS full-time research associate at the LaMCoS laboratory of INSA-Lyon. Visiting Associate Professor at Eindhoven Technical University (Department of Mechanical Engineering) from 2010 to 2011. Fernando Salazar received the Degree on Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Madrid in 2002, specializing in Hydraulics. He has worked in several dam and hydraulic projects, as well as in the development of emergency plans and hazard-potential classification of dams (being Mequinenza and Riba-Roja, in the Ebro river, among them). He is working for CIMNE since 2009, where he is the current Project Development Director.

He obtained his PhD at the UPC in 2017, qualified as Excellent Cum Laude. It focused on the application of machine learning techniques to dam monitoring data analysis. In this field, he was winner of an International Challenge organized by Verbund, the greatest hydropower company in Austria.

He has been involved in several research projects in the fields of hydraulics, dam engineering and dam safety. He is author or co-author of 15 papers in scientific journals, and around 50 contributions in conference proceedings.

Ignasi de Pouplana Sardà is a Civil Engineer by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) since 2014. He is also a Master in Structural & Construction Engineering and a Ph.D. in Structural Analysis by the same university since 2015 and 2018, respectively.
His research career started in 2012 at the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) when, in the context of the Civil Engineering bachelor thesis, he worked on the implementation and validation of a new code of the Discrete Element Method (DEM). In 2014 he started working on continuum damage mechanics in the field of the Finite Element Method (FEM), and developed a new approach for the failure analysis of quasi-brittle materials by combining non-local damage models with adaptive mesh refinement techniques.
He developed the Ph.D. with the research focused on fluid-structure interaction in porous and fractured media. Topics of major interest included: stable analysis of the fluid flux in porous media, fracture of the solid matrix driven by the fluid pressure, and adaptivity of the mesh to propagate fractures in the porous domain by using non-local damage models along with quasi-zero-thickness interface elements.
In the last years he has participated at CIMNE in various research projects and contracts with industry applied to different engineering problems, e.g. monitoring of stresses during the construction process of concrete arch dams, optimization of drill bit geometries for Particle Impact Drilling (PID) technology, prediction of the final stress state of metallic pieces during casting processes, quantification of sand production in well completions, and prediction of NO2 concentration in urban areas, to name a few. Such an experience has been accompanied by the publication of more than 10 JCR articles and the supervision of 2 PhD theses.
Ignasi is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Strength of Materials and Structural Engineering (RMEE) in UPC, participating in several courses related to structural analysis and strength of materials in the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE).
His research is now focused on the extension of the interface elements formulation for different contact applications, and the generalization of the poromechanics solver presented in his PhD thesis for multiphase flows. The main objective behind such a work will be the development of a new software for the simulation of CO2 storage process.

The International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) is a research organization created in 1987 at the heart of the prestigious Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) as a partnership between the Government of Catalonia and UPC, in cooperation with UNESCO. The aim of CIMNE is the development of numerical methods and computational techniques for advancing knowledge and technology in engineering and applied sciences.

CIMNE’s headquarters are located at the heart of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona. CIMNE has also premises at different buildings in several campus of the UPC. CIMNE has also offices in Spain (Madrid, Terrassa and Ibiza). My professional career is being developed mainly in the field of calculation of structures using numerical methods.

Since November 2011 I work in the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) in Madrid developing research projects in Civil Engineering. The projects focus on the possibilities of using particle methods for the calculation of the behaviour of granular materials, specifically, the Particle Finite Element Method (PFEM) and the Discrete Element Method (DEM).

During my years at the CIMNE I studied the Master of Numerical Methods in Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and my PhD thesis entitled "Numerical analysis of railway ballast behaviour using the Discrete Element Method", presented on October 6, 2017, also at the UPC. The thesis, awarded the XVI Talgo Prize for Technological Innovation, was focused on the application of the Discrete Elements Method to the calculation of the behaviour of railway ballast.

Jonathan Colom Cobb recently finished his degree in Marine Engineernig and Naval Architecture (2015) at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). At the present time, he is a research Engineer at CIMNE and is starting his PhD.

During his degree, Jonathan already showed interest in numerical methods and computational science by first working as a scholar at CEHINAV (Canal de Ensayos Hidrodinamicos de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Navales, Madrid) and then starting an internship at CIMNE that lasted over a year. Now that he has finished his degree, he is starting his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Julio García Espinosa at CIMNE.

Jordi is the director of the Building Energy and Environment, from CIMNE, since 2001. His background comes from the application of numerical methods for the analysis of air flows and thermal heat transfer in active building components and the urban environment. For the last years he has centred his work in modelling the energy performance of buildings, in the analysis of huge amount of data coming from smart meters, in the modelling of Building Integrated
Components and in analysing the user behaviour of tenants in residential buildings.
Although Jordi finished his PhD recently, he has accumulated more than 15 years of experience in collaborating with municipalities, building owners, energy companies and research organizations through national and international cooperative research projects. He
has participated in more than 30 EU funded projects.
Jordi is author of 20 publications in international scientific journals and congresses. He is one of the founders and member of the board of directors of the energy service company INERGY (www.inergybcn.com), promoted by CIMNE and RSM
Gassó. He is also founder and partner of the start up company Beedatanalytics (https://beedataanalytics.com/es/)
Jordi has a strong link with the University of Lleida where he obtained his PhD degree. He is presently collaborating with several research group from this University and has performed several training and master degree courses. Jordi acts also as representative of CIMNE-BEE Group in the following international research networks: E2B and INIVE. He is also one of the Spanish representatives within the AIVC and he is participating in the Annex 71 of the IEA.

Dr. Jordi Pons-Prats is a Mechanical Engineer. His activity in the last 15 years has combined a research career in the field of optimization, robust design and stochastic analysis and the work experience in project management in the industrial sector. His research is focus on the development and application of optimization methods for Robust Design.

His industrial work experience is based in his technical background and his project management skills. He spent 3 years in the software industry, 3 years in the home appliances industry and 4 years in the aeronautical sector. He did his PhD as part-time student at CIMNE from 2003 to 2011. He was Tinsley Oden visiting Fellowship in 2000 from the University of Texas, Austin integrated with the software development group Mesh Generation at the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES). Since 1999 is senior professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria works associatted at the Department of Cartography and Graphic Expression in Engineering. Currently, I am full professor of shipbuilding technology at the Higher Technical School of Naval Architects and Offshore Engineers (ETSIN) of the Technical University of Madrid and the Deputy Director of Institutional Relations.

Throughout my academic and professional career I have contributed on several levels to the development of Engineering both nationally and internationally. I am confident that my work has allowed applied sciences and new method implementation for enginnering to converge.

I have work on showing how numerical methods for modelling and solving real engineering problems is something of great value, from the study of wetlands of international interest to brain models for computer assisted brain surgery.

The biggest academic achievement so far has been to stablish a new technology on a world level to solve the electroencephalography inverse problem, which is to say, the detection of potential generating sources in electroencephalography signals. This was the study I performed during my doctorate program, where I stablished said methodology using a meshless finite element approach, merging anatomical information and temporal lobe epilepsy patient functional information.

My work as a professor and researcher has always been linked to life condition improvement for the people, to the development and growth of our country and the latin american region.

Therefore, I am convinced that scientific research must be rigorous and applied at the same time. Research constitutes a catalyst element of wellbeing and development. As such, the advancement in innovative proposals, in concepts, in appropriate technologies, requires knowledge, commitment and, overall, responsibility inside academic work.

Likewise, I consider that teaching must be always getting feedback from national and international research.

Engineering, in any area, is a living and dynamic concept, grounded both in technique and science, but that must have its output in a practical application always looking to transform the observed reality.

Michel Visonneau, obtained in 1980 an Engineer's diploma and the diploma of Advanced Naval Architecture in 1981 from Centrale Nantes. In 1985, he got a PhD of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer of the University of Nantes and entered the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) as research associate. He was the head of the CFD department of the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory (Centrale Nantes) from 1995 to 2012. In 2001, he defended his Habilitation to supervise Research and was promoted research director at CNRS in 2006.

He has supervised more than 20 PhD thesis. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the International Workshop on CFD in Ship Hydrodynamics since 2005. He was awarded the 2nd Cray prize for CFD in 1991 and 30th Georg Weinblum lecturer in 2007. In 2006, he built a partnership with NUMECA Int. which gave birth to FINE/Marine (http://www.numeca.com/product/finemarine) and is now in charge of the scientific management of this worldwide distributed software.

I am right between Engineering and Software development.
Working at CIMNE since 2004, I have been involved and led research projects in a wide range of fields: harbours & waves, oil & gas drilling, aerodynamics, landslides, agriculture,... I developed a software for free surface flows (www.cimne.com/pfem/) and after that, one for particles (http://www.cimne.com/dem/), but I also found myself developing parts of standard CFD and structural (CSM) codes.
In these years I have become an experienced programmer mainly in Object Oriented languages (C++, Python) and also Matlab. Subversion or Git (preferably the second) are a must for the best team work.
As an Engineer, the goal of each project is my main concern, and software is just a handy tool.
The lectures on Theory of Finite Elements and structures given at the University since 2010 were a good complement to my practical work at CIMNE.

He was Associate Professor of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis (1988-1999) and is Professor of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis (since 1999) at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos of Barcelona (UPC). He has been Deputy Director for Infrastructures and Resources (1990-1991), Head of Studies for Civil Engineering (1991-1994), Deputy Director for Academic Coordination (1994-1996), Academic Registrar (1996-1997) and Head of Doctoral Studies (2016- ) at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos of Barcelona. In 1988 he was one of the founder members of the Spanish Society for Numerical Methods in Engineering (SEMNI) and he has been a member of the Executive Committee of SEMNI since 1996.

In 1998 Prof. Miguel Cervera was co-winner of the Honorable Mention for the Award "City of Barcelona on Technological Research". In 2012 he won the UPC Board of Trustees Award for Quality Career in University Teaching. Also in 2012, he was awarded the "Jaume Vicens Vives" Medal for Excellence in University Teaching by the Government of Catalonia. In 2016 he received the "IACM Fellows Award", bestowed by the International Association for Computational Mechanics for a distinguished record of research, accomplishment and publication in areas of Computational Mechanics.

Prof. Miguel Cervera has published 13 books in Mechanics and Strength of Materials and in Structural Mechanics, used as reference textbooks in graduate and post-graduate courses in Engineering and Architecture in universities in Spain, Argentina, Peru, Guatemala and Portugal.

Prof. Miguel Cervera has published 100 research papers in JCR scientific journals, over 180 communications in International Conferences, Congresses and Symposiums and 24 monographs and 9 book chapters in the field of non-linear computational mechanics of solids, with focus on finite element technology, non-linear constitutive modeling, and thermo-mechanical and coupled problems and numerical simulation of construction and production processes.

Prof. Miguel Cervera has participated in 70 national and international research conferences, acting in 47 of them as member of the Scientific or the Organizing Committee. He has also co-organized a number of special invited sessions and has been invited as keynote lecturer in several international conferences, including the IV World Congress on Computational Mechanics (1998). He also acts regularly as referee for 37 international scientific journals and has been co-editor of a special issue of the International Journal of Plasticity on Numerical Simulation of Forming Processes (2001). 2008-2009: Visiting scientist and Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) department of the West Virginia University (WVU). The main task conducted in this period is the coordination of the “Resilient Tunnel Project” sponsored by Homeland Security (budget > $5,000,000)

2009-2014: Visiting professor at the Science and Nautical Engineering Department (DCEN) of the UPC. The teaching activity is conducted at the School of Nautical Studies (FNB) and at the School of Civil Engineering (ETSECCPB).

2012: Research stay at the MAE department of WVU

2013-17: Vice-dean Director of Studies at the FNB

2014: Contracted as Visiting lecturer at DCEN

2015: Board member of the Spanish Association of Composite Materials (AEMAC)

2017: Editor of the scientific journal Materiales Compuestos (Composite Materials) edited by AEMAC.

2018: Contracted as associate professor at DCEN

2019: Coordinator of the Master's program on Naval and Ocean Engineering

Currently working in three european projects related to composite materials: Fibre4Yards, Fibregy and Acasisas. In the former one acting as PI of the whole project.

27 papers published in indexed journals (21 of them in Q1). 4 papers in non-indexed journals. 8 books and book chapters. More than 50 contributions to national and international conferences.

H-Index of 11, according to Scopus Database.

Participation in 1 research project in the United States, 9 European projects, 6 national (Spanish) projects, 1 project in collaboration between WVU and CIMNE and 6 projects for the industry.

From September 2010 to April 2013, studied at the Department of Civil Engineering of Northwestern Polytechnical University and received a master's degree in engineering. From 2013 to April 2019, studied at the Department of Engineering Mechanics of Northwestern Polytechnical University, mainly researched the seismic performance of reinforced concrete structures, and obtained a doctorate degree. In 2019, entered the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, and became a lecturer.
